Hi everybody !!

Me and my friends(7 people) bought an Interrail global flexi pass starting this Sunday (1st August). Our plan is first to go from Geneva to Berlin by night but i've just found out that the reservations in Switzerland are really expensive (45euro for a simple seat!) and full at the end of the afternoon. I've tried to check other ways to reach Berlin (by Strasbourg in France, Stuttgart) but they dont say anything about the reservations. I've also tried to look at the local trains connections but that implies 23 hours of train.

I am not really acquainted to the Interrail, it's the first time I buy it. Does anyone have a solution ? Or does anyone have ever done this journey before ?

Thanks for answering :)

Hi Marguerite!

Geneve - Berlin overnight:

Geneve 1714 - 1953 Basel :arr: IC, free with InterRail
Basel 2107 - 0751 Berlin :arr: https://rail.cc/en/zurich-basel-berlin/f3756

The Basel - Berlin train is a CNL night train with different classes of accomodation: reclining seats, couchettes, sleepers; you'll find all the information you need if you follow the link.

or

Geneve 2014 - 2141 Bienne :arr: IC, free with InterRail
Bienne 2149 - 2253 Basel :arr: IC, free with InterRail
Basel 2326 - 0721 Dortmund :arr: ICE, free with InterRail
Dortmund 0748 - 1108 Berlin :arr: ICE, free with InterRail

This is a connection without a real night train, the Basel - Dortmund ICE is a regular train without special facilities for overnight travel. You just sleep in a regular seat; but dont need a reservation

I dont know why you were offered a 45€ reservation, there must have been a mistake somewhere - reservations for a regular seat are usually between 3€ and 5€ (in Western Europe). :)
