I'm looking at hostels in Vienna. I'm considering Wombats City Hostel The Base, but some of the reviews mention that the location is a bit dodgy and beds aren't made up. I'm also looking at Believe-It-Or-Not, which has received great reviews but is quite expensive. Has anyone stayed in either of these places, or anywhere else which would be safer and cheaper?
Thanks

Hi!
I've been there several times to Wombats hostels and they are certainly on the upper end of the scale.
- Beds werent made up because you have to do it yourself. You get free linen at the check-in
- Location is just around Westbahnhof; indeed it is in a little side street but it's only 3 minutes or so to shopping steet Mariahilfer Straße with two tram lines to Westbahnhof and two metro lines nearby. And it is in no way unsafe to stay there. :)
Havent heard about the other hostel, sorry.

I stayed in the Meininger Hostel (also a Hostel Chain operating in some countries).
It was good but for the price (€20 per night) I was expecting the kitchen to be cleaned more frequently and the hostel was too hot with no AC even in the common areas.
Otherwise very clean and friendly staff.
