Hello,

My friends and I are planning to do an Interrail trip down to Nice and from there to Perpignan. We would start in Hamburg, Germany. From Straßburg we will need to take French trains. If possible, we do not want to pay supplement on top of the cost for the interrail global pass ticket. So

(1) what is the cheapest connection from Straßbourg to Nice?
(2) can we use the trains at the cote a sur with our interrail ticket?

Hi Henning!

1.) Supplement free connection:

Strasbourg 0621 - 0739 Basel
Basel 0803 - 0910 Biel
Biel 0919 - 1046 Geneve
Geneve 1058 - 1247 Lyon
Lyon 1327 - 1709 Marseille
Marseille 1759 - 2032 Nice

Faster connection including a TGV:

Strasbourg 0838 - 1316 Lyon
Lyon 1327 - 1709 Marseille
Marseille 1759 - 2032 Nice

Fastest connection, both trains TGV:

Strasbourg 0838 - 1430 Avignon
Avignon 1441 - 1803 Nice

2.) At the Cote d'Azur you can use all TER trains for free with your InterRail ticket. :) Just take care not to take a TGV train, otherwise you are fine. There are frequen trains operating, at least twice per hour between the major places.

Thank you. I still have call back to make. Taking the trip 1, we would go trough Switzerland (Basel). Would that be fine, taking the global pass interrail?

If you have Global InterRail pass, no problem. Only when travelling with a One Country Pass you'd have to stick to the selected country. :)
