Hi People.. first of all I'd like to thank everyone on this forum . You guys have helped all the travellers ever so much. This forum was my bible when i went inter railing for the first time last year and i loved it SO much that i'm doing it again next month!!! :D :D
Anyway to my question now :
I understand putting athens onto the route planner doesn't work.. and it isn't for me. But that's ok because I assume there would be a fair bit of rail connections from Athens to main cities.
The thing that I need to know is going to Patras from Athens in the morning. I know there's a post on Patras to Athens by either bus or train.

I would love it if someone could tell me about the Athens - Patras route. How much would I have to pay on top if i have an IR pass. What are the train timings? (especially in the morning i.e. between 06:00 to 12:00) Do i need to make any reservations for it?
Compared to that what's the bus connection like? Which one is more expensive..? What're the bus timings and where do i book for the bus thing.

I am sorry it seems like a lot of questions but i tried keeping it basic.

What i'm planning to do is start from Athens early morning and go to Patras - spend the day there. Next early morning take the ferry to Ancona and from there go to Milano.
from Milano I plan on flying back to London that night.
So regarding the other parts of the journey i'll be posting my questions in the relevant sections.

Thank you all!

Maybe he knows as well more...... as he is the real specialist for Greece and the border countries! :)

hope not too late...
The normal train and ticket costs around 12 euros so i don't think it's worthing wasting a day from your inter rail ticket for this.. just save it for further traveling.. also if you are student and have any card with you could pay less...
there are definitely trains early in the morning and in midday but now it's hard to find the exact timetables.. (check the topic too)
No need at all to make a reservation..
The bus is a bit more expenssive and lasts half an hour less or so.. every 30 minutes busses from Athens to Patras and vice versa.. also no need (and no way) to book..
