Hallo Flow!!

I am planing a 22 days trip together with my girlfriend and i wonder wether you could help me giving me some tips please. I have been reading the public posts and i have seen you know a lot about interrail and travelling around europe by train.

Our plan is getting the 22 days ticket starting in august in milano and basically travelling trough die Schweiz, Österreich, Hungary, Chec Republic, Slowenia, Croacia, Romania...Istambul (may be) We really do not know very much how to design the travel to see not just the capitals and big cities, but as well to get to know the little jewels such as little nice towns. As we are nature friendly and do not look for night life but for visiting nice cities and seing beautiful landscapes without wasting too much money.

I know the question is too open but you may give us some tips about night train conections and cheap places to sleep in.

Thanks in andvanced

Hi!

I recommend to read the informations in this link to get a first overview - so that you can plan your journey more easily: https://rail.cc/en/first-interrail-tour/f3303

About your route. 22 days for eight countries might be a bit short, especially if you want to visit some places off the beaten track. But nevermind, you'll see while planning what is possible and what could be a little too ambitious. For example, Istanbul is certainly very nice but it's a long journey...I'd say go there if you still have travel days/time left but dont force it in your plans.

When going from Milano to Switzerland, you could make a stop somewhere along the Centovalli railway between Domodossola and Locarno. Then continue via the Gotthard route to Zürich. You could also take the route via Tirano and the beautiful Bernina line over the Alps to get to St. Moritz and Chur and then continue to Zürich.
From Zürich you could go over the Arlberg to Innsbruck and then maybe to one of the lakes in Tyrol or Salzburg - Achensee or Zeller See maybe. Also, you could go to the Salzkammergut which has a beautiful landscape...
In Slowenia, definitely go to Ljubljana and also think about Lake Bled or Plitvice..

Just some quick suggestions...when you go further down the East I dont have much experience so cant give you much advice there. But I'm sure others on the forum can.

For night trains, just check the different country boards - where you will find almost all night trains with timings and supplements. :) And if you have more questions, just ask.
