Hee guys!

This summer we want to travel through the Balkan countries. Therefor we want to take the nighttrain from Istanbul to Thessaloniki. We were'nt able to find any information on how to reserve a ticket for the night train, we just found that it is really important to make a reservation. So, does anyone know how to make this reservation??

Thanks!

Hi Anne and Annika.

The reservation for the night train Istanbul-Thessaloniki you will have to buy at a station.
Either in Turkey or Greece. It should also be possible in Sofia (Bulgaria) main station and if you have luck in Belgrade (Serbia), Bucharest (Romania) or Budapest (Hungary).
If you buy the ticket 1 or 2 days in advance at one of these stations you should get a seat or be as everybody has to do so. In this train, a big part of the travelers are Railpass traveler, so it will be a nice trip. I recommend you a compartment (couchette, sleeper) where you can lock the doors.

More information about how to make a reservation is in this topic:

Have fun in Eastern Europe as it is really worth to travel there!!!

i made this trip yesterday once more.. the only place you can book the ticket is Thessaloniki train station..
Most days you won't have a problem finding a bed but i am not sure about August..

ps. the problem with train rails is not that bad cause the change to busses is made 7am so enough sleeping time..
