Hi,

we (2 ppl) are going on our first interrail trip this summer and were wondering if anyone has any information about whether it's legal/allowed to just camp anywhere in these countries especially in/around athens/rome as we're struggling to find free campsites...

would really appreciate replies. thanks.

Hi.

As much as I know it is not allowed in these 4 countries.
Think about hostels: [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]

And I do not recommend to sleep t beaches close to bigger cities - might be dangerous - theft.
If you want to do it or if you do not find a place to sleep, take a train going outside the city and leave in a small village - search there a corner to sleep.

Peter :)

Is a common misbelief that wild/free camping is illegal in Spain.

On the contrary it is allowed but only if you place less than 5 tents within 100 meters and place the tent for the night.

The idea is that, what's not allowed, is to make a settlement or use the camping as a operations base while you go and visit the zone.
Plus, I should really discourage you if you're willing to leave your tent unattended.

Try to search for quiet places, do not place your tent flashing it to everybody and, in case you meet a local or the landowner, always ask for permit. It's polite and will save you froms ome problems :)
