On my passport I my residence is Germany.
But I actually study (and live) in the Netherlands for a few years now.
On [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] I'm asked to give all information which is on my passport (passport number, country of residence...)
So on my passport it says Germany, which would mean that I'm not allowed to travel within Germany.
So, how can I solve this problem????

Hi.

If you can proof by official documents (residency permit or something like this) that you lived more than 6 months in the Netherlands, you can fill in as COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE: the Netherlands.
Then you travel for free in Germany, as the Netherlands are your country of residence.

If you do not have such a proof and only a German passport or ID card, you will have to select Germany as your country of residence - even the Netherlands is your country of residence - but without proof, the train staff can not check it where you lived the last six months - and only see your German passport.

I know it is sometimes hard to get such a proof - as especially within the European Union you can stay and live wherever you want.

Would in that case be a student identity card, saying that he studied in Holland be enough as a proof?

A relevant question here i guess. I have a Swedish ID Card and have been studying in Sweden for almost an year now. Since i cant travel Sweden on the pass but i get 50% discount to and from the bordering city to the first city i can use my pass in i wonder According to interrail website xxxx - sorry, we are not the support of them ;)

Is this reduction valid for travel everywhere in the country or just upto borders and back to the city of residence?

How does that work? has anyone tried that or have been in similar situation. I live in umeƄ which is what 24 hours from copenhagen where i can use the pass. will i get the mentioned 50% reduction on that or not ? and if i travel to somewhere else in sweden and not to copenhagen, will i be entitled to the reduction?

Also when i bought my interrail pass and added my id card number it wouldnt accept more than 12 figures which is less than what is my ID card number. So i entered first 12. Is it a mistake ?

Hi Minhaaj!

The InterRail discount in your country of residence is valid for travelling from your home to the border, where you start your InterRail trip and back home. Note that your InterRail ticket has to be valid already to get the reduction. Ie if you start on 25th July from Umea in direction of Kopenhagen, your InterRail pass has to start on that 25th July.
You cant use the reduction for solely domestic travelling in your country of residence. This means you you have to get a ticket Umea to Swedish border, be it Kopenhagen, Storlien, etc... Also, you cant get the discount for transit journeys, ie if you'd start your trip in Norway and then want to cross Sweden again to get to Kopenhagen, you cant get the discount.

About the id card number...hm, I am not totally sure as I'm always travelling with my passport but I think if there isnt more space you should be fine with the first 12 numbers. If you have your card with you you can always proof that it is you travelling with your ticket. ;) And passport/id numbers get checked not very often by train staff.

Hello!

I have a british passport but have been living in Guernsey (Channel Islands) for 2 years. If I travel with a photocopy of my Guernsey housing lisence will my interrail global pass be valid for use in the UK? or does Guernsey count as being part of the UK?

Thanks x

Hi.

Guernsey is counted as own country. Read this topic where you will find the definition of residency:
https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail

So I would say yes you can travel on an Guernsey InterRail Pass reading the rules mentioned by the link above. As long as the housing license is counted as an official document. But you will need the original document, not just a photocopy.

Thanks x

I have one extra question.

It looks as though the pass can be delivered to Guernsey but not until 3rd August. I was hoping to leave sooner than that. I saw that it can be delivered to the UK by 23rd July. Would it be okay to get the ticked shipped to my parents house in the UK and then for them to send the pass special delivery to Guernsey? Or do I have to get it shipped to my country of residence?

xx

Hi.

If you order via our online shop [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] , the delivery to the UK is within 24 hours on business days and to other European countries (like for example Guernsey) within 48 hours on business days. Calculate one extra day to be absolutely sure. But It is no problem to get it delivered still this week.
But delivery is also possible to your parents in the UK - no problem - and then pick it up there. The delivery costs will be cheaper to the UK thank to Guernsey.
