Finally planning my first interrail trip and I'm very excited! But one thing (among other things) is still niggling at my mind... currency. Most of the places we're planning to visit are in the non euro zone so we're worrying about how much cash to have on us and whether or not to use a card, traveller's checques etc etc. I followed a link to moneysavingexpert's page on travelmoney... and they recommend using a credit card with good rates abroad, then obviously paying it all off once I return to avoid any interest charges. It seems great because there are no hidden charges for using the card to pay for items, but small charges for withdrawing cash.

Can anyone enlighten me on whether this is a good idea or not?

Thanks for any help,

Sam

Hi Sam.

I always use a VISA credit card - to pay hostels - or to withdraw money from ATMs. Never had problems and you can use it everywhere in Europe.

Its a good idea - as long as you can afford to pay it off in full when the bill comes. Otherwise look for the cheapest debit card to use abroad. The MSE sight is the best resource for this. It used to be (if youre from the UK) that the Nationwide Debit Card was the best but im not sure whether this is still the case
