Station lockers in Sofia and Istanbul

Hi,

We are wondering about the safety of lockers on stations (Sofia and Istanbul). Does anyone know if these exist? And do you think they are safe?

We heard about there being copies of keys to these lockers, so we are not sure whether it is safe to put our backpack in one.

A more general answer to our question is also helpful, if no one has experience with the mentioned train stations.
