Hi.
It's my first time here in the forum and it will be my first Interrail trip as well. ;) I would appreciate some advices about the travel route me and my friends are planning to take since we're not very used to do a trip like this one.
Paris - Amsterdam - Copenhagen - Berlin - Krakow - Poprad (High Tatras) - Budapest - Athens - Bari/Ancona - Rome - Geneve
Notes:
1.We're flying from Portugal to Paris on 26th July and we will start our interrail from there, on the very same day. I must say we don't want to visit Paris, we prefer to use our first day to travel to Amsterdam since we don't want to pay the TGV supplement.
2. The only possible way to travel between Copenhagen and Berlin by night is with the Berlin Night Express, right? We thinking about choosing one of the day trains since it will be much cheaper.
3. Which is the cheapest ferry company between Greece and Italy? We want to travel to Rome, so I was thinking about travelling between Patras and Bari by ferry and then by train to Rome. The only problem is that the Eurostar train to Rome needs supplements and the alternative Intercity take a lot more time, so I really don't know if Ancona is a better option.
4. I would love to go to Istanbul. Do you think if we replace the Tatras for Istanbul, we will have two/three days per city? I think that it's a very ambitious idea and also very expensive, since we would have to pay a lot of train supplements. But what do you think?
5. We only want to arrive to Geneve on 16th August, at night, because we will fly home only the next afternoon.
Thanks for the help,
Rita

Hi Rita.
1) Try to get a flight directly to Amsterdam and save a travel day:
https://rail.cc/en/train/paris-to-amsterdam
2) Amsterdam-Copenhagen by free day trains:
Amsterdam Centraal dep: 0704
Duisburg Hbf Arr: 0906
Duisburg Hbf dep: 0946
Hamburg Hbf arr: 1312
Hamburg Hbf dep: 1328
Koebenhavn H arr: 1811
Night train: https://rail.cc/en/train/amsterdam-to-copenhagen
Using the night train will save you a lot of travel time - and the money you spent for the night train is at the same time the money you save for a hostel.
So if you get a seat for EUR 5 for the night train, it is much cheaper than a hostel: [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]
3) https://rail.cc/en/ferry-greece-italy-patras-bari-ancona-venice/f1348
4) In Eastern Europe you won't have to pay a lot of supplements. Except for the night trains - but like mentioned above: you save the money for a hostel.
For example Belgrade-Istanbul is possible by night train for only EUR 9:

Have a sunny trip, Peter :)
