Hey

So my University are idiots - our student cards have our start date but no graduation year on them (expiry date) whether because not everyone completes degree or so we buy NUS cards (UK) but it means I have a lot of problems in the UK getting discounts because of no expiry date. I've never had problems in other countries with it but as I'm going travelling for 7 weeks to a lot of different places and need to save money, is it going to cause me problems? Has anyone been in the same situation? I was just going to back down and buy an ISIC card but it expires in December which is a rip off when it usually lasts for 16 months!! I would just buy an IYTC card instead as that's for straight 12 months and would suit me better as in a year I won't be a student anymore anyway, but then I wouldn't be able to get student prices anywhere would I?

Hi!

Umm...I dont know if you'd be in trouble. When I was travelling the only thing that mattered was if you had an student idendity card, not when it expired. I bought ISIC card once and also thought it was a ripoff as I would have gotten its benefits anyway with my regular student card.
About the other cards I cant tell you anything, because we dont have them here in Austria (I think...). But if you'd still have a valid student ID you'd certainly get its benefits whether you'd still be studying or not.

Sorry that I cant help you more.

It's just because I have hell everytime I try to get discount here. I always have to give the story that I would've gradated from uni when I was 19 if the 2007 date on my card was my graduation year. And so I don't want to have to go through all that in different countries. At least for the 4 months left when I return from travels I will be able to get discounts in the UK without hassle so I think I'm just going to have to get one and try to forget the £9 I'll have wasted on a card for travelling when I'm sure expiry wouldn't even get checked, £5 on passport photos and travel to find a statravel... Oh well.
