Hallo fellow interrailers !

When traveling in August (which as we all know has to be considered as quite a busy month in european turism) is it then required that you make reservations in advance to those hostels that you are going to ? Because we are two guys who are planning for a interaill trip where we take it is at i comes, and therefore we do not plan to make reservations at the hostels that we are going to sleep in. But is this possible in August or is everything reseverd by others when we whould show up ?

Hi!

If you want to go to Paris or Amsterdam, I'd recommend to make a reservation in advance - that's my experience. In other cities you may just show up and look for free places. But keep in mind that the better places, ie those ranked high in [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux] etc ratings probably are full some days in advance.
And always showing up at a place not knowing if and when you'll get decent accomodation might get a bit frustrating during a longer trip - so maybe think about making reservations for the next place you're going to from the hostel you're currently staying at. If you cant find a nice place you could still change your plans.

Having traveled in August, I would say *definitely* make reservations, at least one or two days ahead -- also for trains when you can. August is really crazy. Unless you like the adventure of uncertainty and don't mind a park bench night here and there :)
