Hallo fellow interrailers ! We are two guys travelling in August 2010. This is our first trip interrailing and therefore we would like to know how much we should anticipate using on supplements on the trains. We are focused on keeping the prize low and therefore we are trying to only take trains which are supplements free. Is this possible ? And how often do you in general need to pay for supplements while interrailing ?
Thanks for the incovience.

Hi!
It depends on where you travel. Roughly you can say that you will have to get a reservation more often in
- Spain (literally all long-distance trains)
- France (TGV, Téoz and Lunéa services)
- Italy (most long distance services except IC and E)
- Sweden (X2000)
and in some Eastern European countries - but the prices you'll have to pay there are quite low.
For a detailed overview have a look here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
In general it is possible in most relations to avoid the trains which require a supplement and use free , but slower alternatives (regional trains mostly) instead. However, there are many relations where the reservation absolutely pays off - in general you can say the longer your journey with a train with a reservation takes, the better. ;)
Also, most night trains ( https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train ) require a reservation - but keep in mind that you save the money for a hostel and wake up in another city in the morning.
