Hey guys!
My friend and I are leaving on our Interrail trip to Scandinavia next week. We're going for three weeks, but up until now I only have a rough draft of what our first week will look like. We'll start off in Copenhagen (or maybe Mön), continue to Stockholm, take the ferry to Helsinki, continue up north by night train to Rovaniemi, cross borders to eventually arrive in Narvik and then we'll go all the way south through Norway and visit a bit more of Sweden after that.
What places would you recommend to visit in the north of Norway? We'll be arriving by train in Narvik, but I'm not sure where to go from there. Is it possible to get to Svolvaer by public transport? I heard that's a beautiful place to visit. I really want to visit the Lofoten. We're planning on spending about one week in Norway (more time in Norway & Sweden than in Finland and Denmark). I have already been to Oslo and Bergen before, but my travelbuddy hasn't, so we might visit these cities as well. We're definitely planning on taking the special trains, the one from Flam in Norway and the innlandsbanen (spelling?) in Sweden.
Any tips, recommendations on places to visit, possible routes, accomodation, transport, etc. are most most welcome!!! Thanks in advance!!

Hi.

I definitely recommend you the Inlandsbanan in Sweden. Maybe with a stop in between.

There is a topic here at the Norway forum about the Lofoten, but Norway is expensive. As well using buses there.

Thanks, I'll definitely do the Inlandsbanan. I read that you recommend a certain part (Östersund to Gällivare), but is it also possible to do the whole trip (at least one way) in say.. 2-3 days? Or would that be too much? :P

Hi!

Well, you could go Mora - Östersund - Gällivare in two (travel) days. That's the whole route, from Mora south to Kristinehamn there is only a bus service operating.

You can easily get to Mora from Stockholm via Borlänge. :)

Thanks Flo! Is there a stop you recommend or would that automatically be Östersund?

Hi!

I have yet to travel on Inlandsbanan (we're going this summer as well, I'm making plans at the moment)...so cant recommend a special place. Have a look at the timetables (in the Inlandsbanan-topic in the country forum for Sweden and you will see that there is only a very limited services operating, so you'll have to plan a little where to go and how long to stay. Östersund probably is the place where there is most to see and visit, but there might be other places where there is more beautiful nature.
Cant tell you more, but if you find out something, you could give me a tip. ;)
