Hi guys, I've been inter-railing 3 times before on various different routes, with friends. This summer I'm going with my wife. How has anyone found travelling as a couple? In the past I've been happy to just have a seat on a night train, or a bed in a communal dorm, and generally slumming it with everyone else. I've got a feeling this year might be a little different! Does anyone know whether most hostels have the option of private double rooms? I would have thought not myself, narrowing the choice down to cheap hotels. As for the night trains, just looked at the price of the actual sleeper compartments for 2 people, and at 60 euros per person, they're a little steep! My wife hasn't done the travelling thing before and is a little nervous about the prospect of faling asleep with loads of other weirdos around! The other point worth bearing in mind is that I'm a little older than when I did it before (still not old! Only 29!), and in a steady job, so may prefer the comforts a bit more. I dunno. Anyone's experience would be massively helpful!
Cheers

Hi.

If you are used to travel the dirty InterRail style, you might have some problems with a woman beside you, traveling as a couple. It won't be a real intimate holiday.
I recommend to use cheap hotels (EUR 40 per night), check the Arcor group ones.

As night trains are really expensive using a 2 bed compartment, the same for hostels.

Peter :)

I don't know if you assume women to be less flexible in terms of accommodation or other standards? Of course, It's nice to enjoy a few moments of intimacy when you're traveling with a partner. I'm currently on Interrail with my boyfriend, and we vary between dorms/seats on night trains and private rooms in hostels :)

Thanks guys, that's helpful stuff, glad that 2 person rooms are available in places. Yeah, I'm a bad sleeper, so always had problems sleeping on night trains in seats (though that's what I always got, never paid for reservations unless we really had to, though one night I remember curling up on the floor in the bit next to the toilets. Horrible!), but always enjoy the adventure. I've done a bit of camping when I've been in the past, and that gives a bit more intimacy, but we're just doing the 10 days in 22 ticket this time, so with travel being fairly limited, we'll probably focus on cities, which means that campsites are often a pain to get to. prinsesselea, no I don't assume that at all, the first time I went inter-railing was with a girl too. It's more that I know my wife! She's fine with most stuff, but the thing that concerns her the most is safety.

Anyway, like I said, thanks for the help, and if anyone else has any experiences of this, it'd be great.
