First time interrailing, and interested in visiting the capitals of West Europe. Feasible in about a month? Leaving from Finland, so I think I have to take a ferry to Stockholm and from there a ferry to Copenhagen?

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me - I think I can figure out the details myself, but is there too many cities to visit?

Hi.

It should be possible within one month. Depends if you want to travel back or just fly back from Spain.
Of course there are much more nice cities on your route - but just to get a short impression, some links to routes on how to travel (of course there are much more connections available using the schedule planer):

Helsinki-Stockholm: https://rail.cc/en/ferry-stockholm-turku-helsinki/f1233
You will get the discount even Finland is your country of residence.

Stockholm-Copenhagen: https://rail.cc/en/stockholm-copenhagen-kobenhavn-train/f4060

Copenhagen-Malmö-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-night-express-sweden-berlin/f1186

Berlin-Amsterdam: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-amsterdam-train/f2407

Paris-Madrid: https://rail.cc/en/paris-madrid-night-train/f1133
I recommend you first Paris-Barcelona trough the Pyrenees: https://rail.cc/en/paris-pyrenees-barcelona-le-petit-tain-jaune/f4023
And then to Madrid.

I hope this will help - and if you want to support us, buy your official InterRail pass at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - thank you. Don't hesitate to ask if you have some more questions.
Peter :)
