Dusseldorf-Amsterdam-Berlin-Prague-Budapest-Brasov-Bucharest-Belgrade-Zagreb-Split-Ljubljana-Salzburg-Milan-Pisa-Genoa

We were thinking about doing this trip but doing it in 22 days? we have planned it out but there is disagreement as to whether it would be too much to do in the time we have or not? Do you think it needs to be fewer places and if so what would be advisable not to see? How much do you think the trip would cost and any tips for the places in general?

Hi.

It is a good route you planed to travel. And might be a bit too much if you don't want to only rush trough the cities.
Especially f you want to stay some days at the Croatian coast (Split-Rijeka).

Some route examples, of course there are much more available using the schedule planer: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Düsseldorf-Amsterdam: by free day train

Amsterdam-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-berlin-train/f2346

Berlin-Prague: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-prague-train/f3361

Prague-Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/prague-budapest-train/f1468

Budapest-Brasov-Bucharest: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-bucharest-night-train/f1605
Leave the night train in the moorning in Brasov for a day trip to Draculas castle:
https://rail.cc/en/brasov-bran-castle-dracula-train/f4317

Bucharest-Belgrade: https://rail.cc/en/bucharest-belgrade-night-train/f4775

Belgrade-Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/belgrade-zagreb-train/f4776

Zagreb-Split: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/zagreb-split-b821/129

Then you have the option by bus along the coast to Rijeka as there are no trains running along the coast. But buses are very frequent and cheap in Croatia:
https://rail.cc/en/croatia-bus-connections/f2875

Rijeka-Ljubljana: https://rail.cc/en/rijeka-ljubljana-train/f4774

Ljubljana-Salzburg: by day train (4h)

And back to Italy as well by day trains....

If you want to skip Salzburg, you can travel this way from Ljubljana to Italy:
