Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea of how much I am likely to spend interrailing for 1 month in July-August? I have budgeted €500 for accomodation and €180 for train supplements but I don't know how much things like food and activities are likely to cost? I am trying to keep costs down so will try and get as much food from street stalls and supermarkets etc, so what is the lowest cost I can reasonably expect?

Thanks

Hi.

Food is the most important thing to save money.
I recommend to have a small camping stove with you (camping gaz, ...) as noddles with tomato are always cheaper than one meal at a fast food restaurant.

It depends of course on the region where you travel to.

I always calculate like this PER DAY:

- accommodation: EUR 20
- food: EUR 5
- extras like beer, parties, ...: EUR 5
- supplements: really depends between 0-5 EUR

TOTAL per DAY in average: ~35 EUR

30 travel days X 35 EUR = ~1100 EUR ... PLUS the InterRail GLOBAL PASS.

I am sure you can save on the supplements, let me know which route you want to travel and we can find cheap solutions.

Peter :)

I would say 40 to 50€ per day in average.

I've just came from one month IR and though not made the final accounts I think it's around this.

Minimum 20 something of hostel + lunch + dinner + some other food/drink/coffee + metro tickets + museum entrances. Then u can have other expenses, like things u buy postcards, souvenirs (I bought 2 swiss knifes), laundry.

And if u go outside of cities sometimes u don't have hostels... so either camping or hotel (50€)
