I have read on here about the difficulties people have on trying to make reservations on trains in France, where it doesn't seem to be very interrailer friendly. I was wanting to find if you can make a reservation online for this (couchette the preferred option). I checked the artesia site and it gave e-mail addresses to agents in the UK. I mailed on of them but have had no reply.

Is there somewhere it can be done online, I tried the city to city section on the rail shop site selecting 'reservation only' but the site always seems to be down :(

The only possibility to get an InterRail reservation online for this night train is via the website of the Italian railway company.
The problem is: you will have to pick up the reservation at a ticket machine somewhere in Italy.
Do it the way described here: https://rail.cc/en/italy-train-supplement-online-booking/f2949

I do not recommend you to buy the reservation at a ticket agent as you will often have to pay high supplements. Better then to buy it somewhere at a big station outside of the UK during your trip.

Checked the trenitalia site occassionally but noticed tonight that no couchettes are available at the Global Pass rate on the night I was looking to travel (or the night before, or the night after either). It seems strange how they fill up so far in advance when there is no way of collecting a ticket.

Because the site appears to say so, does this mean the train really IS fully booked.

Only other options to allow me to get to Rome are go to Munich during the day and travel to Rome overnight because Deutsche Bahn allow bookings, not fancied as only seats are available or else try the TGV to Zurich with a connection onto Milan then Rome and hope my hostel has a place a night earlier (advantage I would see WC final I guess).

Is it worth still checking when I arrive in Paris next month if there are spaces available on the Rome sleeper in case the website isn't accurate.

Cheers

Hi.

As much as I know the Italian rail company doesn't have such strict limits for Rail Pass travelers like the French one.
Try it in Paris.

As if you want to avoid traveling up to 20 hours by trains without supplements, the best way is the direct night train.

Thanks for the advice, I will drop by Bercy station in the day I arrive in Paris to see if there's still couchettes available. Given the difficulties in obtaining tickets outside Italy, I've a feeling there will be a chance.

Failing that Plan B is 8:25 TGV to Zurich (can't see them being busy on a Sunday morning, but I noticed another thread where you buy a reservation from the machine), from there to Milan and onto Rome by Eurostar which gets me in about 7:00 it seems. As it's 11 July that would be in time for the WC Final (and the start of the hostel's nightly pizza party :D ). My preference is still to go at night but thanks for the advice to check in Paris anyway. That's very helpful :)
