Hello,
I plan to go to Valencia via Paris and Chambery. I thought about buying a 5 in 10 IR and wanted to start the 31th of July from Berlin to Paris. The route from Paris to Chambery won't be a problem...
Means I am interested in getting from Berlin to Paris, the 31th of July and from Chambery to Valencia the 3th of August. Can someone help me planning the route, as I have no idea where to look up supplement prices and how to avoid them probably?
I would appreciate any kind of help!
P.S.: I do fear flying (especially alone), thus there is no possibility for me to take an aeroplane instead ;P

Hi Jenny.
I suppose your country of residence is Germany? Right?
If yes, you can not travel for free in Germany, you only get a discount of 25% from Berlin to the French border.

Check the website of Deutsche Bahn [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] - if you order early you can get special fares for EUR 29 one-way Berlin-Paris also on the direct night train:
https://rail.cc/en/berlin-paris-train/f2545
For the rest: I recommend yo a stop somewhere in between Chambery and Valencia. For example in Barcelona. As if you want to do it in one day, you will need at least two TGV trains with supplements:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/tgv-sncf/42
So you could spent the money instead for the TGV trains for a night in a hostel in Barcelona. But it is your decision.
Train schedules are here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Supplements here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

Yes, Germany would be the country I wanted to start from. It won't be a problem for me to get to any border, as I still have some tickets, taking me there, which are already paid. Problem will be that Thalys. Is there any good connection which is less expensive from any german border to Paris? And another question I got was if it is possible to get in any TGV and paying the supplement in train or do I have to book previously? If I have to make reservation for these trains before I get into them, where can I do so, also in any german Service Centre of DB? And last but not least, how can I know which are the expensive and the cheaper TGV routes?
Thanks for your help already,
Jenny

Hi.
You can avoid the expensive Thalys trains by using other and slower connections - if you want to start from Cologne to Paris:
https://rail.cc/en/cologne-brussels-paris-thalys-train/f1471
Other option: travel via Karlsruhe to Kehl, cross the border and start from Strasbourg to Paris (very very fast connection).
If you want to buy the TGV supplement before you arrive in France, do it at a bigger German railway station.
And definitely read this topic: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/tgv-sncf/42
