Is it a good idea to have some sort of a weapon (like a stick or a small knife) to defend from dogs?

Hi.
Never had things like this with me.
Once I had a pepper spray for self defence with me and only had problems at the custom (entering the UK).
But I always have a little pocket knife in my bag. Very useful for the trip.

Best form of self defence: Run like a little bitch. Normal mugger wont bother to chase you down the streets, because it's way too high profile chase some screaming guy down the trainstation. Dogs arent that big of a problem, why you would want to defend off them? All i've encountered just ran away from me.
