The obvious route is going via Paris, and then trying to avoid the Elipsos 'supplements' by taking the Corail Lunéa to Portbou and getting regional trains from there. Except for all supplemented tickets are unavailable on the Portbou train for my journey (in a good two months' time!); even reclining seats. Yeuch.
I can't really change the date so, short of forking out a good €50 for the luxury of a seat on the Elipsos train (yes, ignoring from Zürich and Milan too ;) )... - Is there any other way of 'easily' getting between the two, in fewer than two nights, without booking extra accommodation anywhere?
There's got to be something I'm missing :P

Hi!
Go to Paris as described here: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-paris-train/f1472 (free trains)
Then try to get a reservation for the Lunéa to Latour de Carol. Then you can get to Barcelona with a free train again.
If you need more help on that route (or another if that doesnt work out) just let me know. :)

Ah, for some reason I had it in my mind that was just a stop on the Portbou train! Thanks so much for the quick response, Flo. :D If for whatever reason that train isn't fully available, would you recommend the method described https://rail.cc/en/train/amsterdam-to-barcelona here for a Lunéa?

No problem, glad if I can help. :)
Yeah, that train runs together with the Portbou bound train until Toulouse (the Lunéa to Toulouse, then free train to Latour and on to Barcelona would be another option btw). And yes, I'd try the reservation method from the link - it isnt the 100% official way though, but as the price for the online reservation abo forfait 2eme is the same as for the regular InterRail reservation (1,50€, at least that was the case for the Perpignan - Paris Lunéa last february) it should be all fine. :)
