Yes, there are many trains from Athens to Thessaloniki and then a overnight trains to Serbia or Bulgaria. But don't assume the European service quality at Greek railways. The Greek railways is an isolated island with tariff system not bound to CIV. Something like Albania or Moldova :|
You can buy a return ticket from Budapest or Beograd to Thessaloniki, but tickets from Thessaloniki to Athens you can buy only at Greek territory.
Or buy a global Interrail pass, it is valid also in Greece 8)

Hi.

A GLOBAL INTERRAIL PASS is what this forum is about.
You have different options of the length and travel days for a rail pass valid in 30 European countries.
Just jump into a train and travel flexible - you won't need single tickets any more - as it name says: it is a RAIL PASS.

More details here: https://rail.cc/en/first-interrail-tour/f3303
