My friend and I are first time interrailers this summer, but are a little confused about the procedure for reserving trains. How early can this be done? We haven't received our passes yet - do we need them to make a reservation?
So far the advice we have found is a little vague and suggests booking at the station a few days before you leave. We're happy to do this some of the time but there are some trains (ie overnight) that we would prefer to book asap.
It probably doesn't help that this may vary between countries...

Hi.

I can only give you the following information:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation

And in most case you don't have any other solution than to buy the reservation for your night trains at a station.
But you can do this already in other countries. For example in the Netherlands the night trains in Germany, Austria and so on ...

Hi,

and if the train doesn't need reservation/supplements? can I get in the train without a ticket, only the interrail ticket? or should I do always a validation somewhere in the train station?

Thank you :)

Hi!

Yup, just hop on the train. Sometimes there are barriers/gates to the platforms, in that case show the ticket to staff at the station and they will let you through.
