Hi,
it's my first post there, so i will to say hi to every IR-er :)
I am planning to start my trip in the end of July/begining of August. I live in South Poland (near Krakow, you know), but wondering where to go. It will be my first trip like this, and don't know that I should go to the south (Slovakia, Czech, Hungary, Croatia, Italy etc.) or West (Czech, Germany, France, Italy, Spain), or North (Scandinavian states) or maybe mix of them? I will travel with 15 or 22 days IR, sleep in hostels, night trains and tent. Is about 1000 euros enough?
Could you suggest any example, ground-breaking trip starting from Krakow or Slovakia (my house is about 40km from borders)?
Chris.

Hi Chris.
To save money (as you can not travel for free in your country of residence), it should be the best to leave to the South (Slovakia).
But then: you have a lot of good train connections to the whole Europe from Vienna or Budapest which are both close to Bratislava.
Just check the connections here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
To say it this way: Europe is open for you. :)
And 1000 EUR... calculate like this per day:
accommodation: EUR 20
food: EUR 5
extras: EUR 5
TOTAL PER DAY: EUR 30
30 X 20 = EUR 600 for 20 days.
It is just an example... maybe you need more or less, but this is the way I am calculating it.

What do you think about a trip like this:
Slovakia (without staying, only traveling by country):Czech Republic (Prague - 1 day) -> Austria (1 day, Vienna) -> Italy (3-5 days, Rome, Sicily, Venice) -> France (about 2-3 days, Paris, what else?) -> Spain (2 days, Madrit, Barcelona) -> Portugal (one day in Lisboa) -> France -> Switzerland -> comeing back to Poland
Should I add Slovenia, Croatia or Hungary? What do you think? Is it doable in 20 days? Will it be so expensive (totally not cheap countries)?
Will i have any problems traveling beeing under 18? (my 18's birthday are in september, during school year).

Hi.
It is a lot for 20 days. You will only be traveling and sitting in trains.
France is expensive - hostels aren't cheap. Better to use night trains there.
For example traveling from Paris to Barcelona:

Definitely skip Croatia and Hungary - especially if you want to travel to Sicilia... it is more than 24 hours of travel. Check the Italian country topic for information on the night train. I definitely recommend in Italian night trains to use a compartment (couchettes), where you can lock the door at night!
Under the age of 18 you might get problems in hostels and at camp sites, as they do not accept minor travelers, traveling alone.

Maybe should I skip Spain and Portugal also and concentrate on central Europe OR skipping Czech, Austria and Switzerland and just enjoying warmer states?

Maybe it is better to skip Portugal and Spain. Especially in Spain you have to pay supplements on nearly every train. So it is getting expensive there. :)
