Hi

Me and some friends are planning our first interrail.

We're from portugal and our idea is to do a trip round europe from Lisbon and we've agreed on a 22 day trip.

So far we've planed this route:

Lisbon - Madrid - Barcelona - Milan - Firenze - Venice - Liubliana - Wien - Prague - Berlin - Amsterdam - Belgium (Brussels or Brussels and one more) - Paris - Lisbon.
Our idea is to spend 2 nights except for Liubliana and Prague (1 night) and Milan (1 day). We included Milan because apparently its very hard to get from Barcelona to italy. We have decided to travel by night whenever possible and from Barcelona to Milan it seems the only way to do it is spending 46 euros.

Do you think we overdid it in the number of stops? And is there any other way from going from Barcelona to Firenze?
Would appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks,
Miguel

Hi Miguel.

In total a very good route.

From Barcelona to Italy it is very hard, if you want to avoid the expensive night train.
I recommend you to do this route in two steps, either with a stop in Perpignang or Nice.

Have a look at these topics.

1) The Petit Train Jaune in the Pyrneness - it is like a roller-coaster:
https://rail.cc/en/petit-train-jaune-latour-de-carol/f1343
https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

2) The route Barcelona-Nice: https://rail.cc/en/train/marseille-to-nice
Hostel in Nice: https://rail.cc/en/nice/accommodation/c

3) Nice-Ventigmillia-Italy: https://rail.cc/en/train/marseille-to-milan
In Italy avoid the expensive Eurostar trains and use the IC trains!

I hope this will help you planing your tip. Information to other connections are listed at the country topics:
https://rail.cc/en/countries

Like for example back from Paris to Lisbon:

If you have some more questions, let me know.
And if you want to support the forum, buy your official InterRail pass at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you, Peter :)

Thanks for the tips Peter:D We'll have to look into the whole Barcelona to Italy trip...

One more question: If you were to choose 2 of the Belgium cities which ones would you reccomend?

Cheers

Miguel
