Hi,

I'm going interrailing in June and have worked out most of my trip from germany down to Croatia but am now finding it difficult to get from Split to Athens as there seems to be more bus connections than trains between the two. I've read around and some people suggest getting the ferry to bari and back to greece? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi.

In deed it is a long and hard way.
The ferries are a nice option:

Split - Italy: https://rail.cc/en/ferry-croatia-italy/f2339
Italy - Greece: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-ferry/italy/it
https://rail.cc/en/interrail/athens-to-patras

By train you will have to travel (only as an example, other day trains available):
Split - Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/zagreb-split-b821/129
Zagreb - Belgrade: https://rail.cc/en/zagreb-belgrade-night-train/f1896
Belgrade - Thessaloniki - Athens: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/belgrade-to-thessaloniki

Always use Thessaloniki as destination in the route planer when coming from the North, as Athens isn't included.

I'm planning on doing the same think as you but don't fancy train option. I hear its about 32 hours long on pretty rough trains. Think I will get a ferry from Patras over to Italy and travel up to the north where you can get a ferry over to Croatia. I think you have to pay a bit for the Croatian ferrys as theyre not included in the interrail pass but I think it will be worth it for a nicer trip.
