Is the Talgo Avril in operation or are the AVE 103s as fast as it gets? I can't find any information on their use. If they are in use on which routes?

Hi!
Talgo Avril (Serie 106) are not yet in service; maybe the will be in summer but I am not aware of an official announcement.
Serie 103 (Velaro) and Serie 102/112 should both reach 310 km/h in service, the current maximum speed in Spain.

Thanks. Again I was watching Mighty Trains. I hadn't realised the technology behind it and the AVE103s. I'll aim to get at least one ride in on an AVE.

What technology are you referring to?
Serie 103 is nothing really special being derived from German/DB ICE 3 (Baureihe 403/406). I would recommend to travel with the Serie 102/112 "Pato" Talgo trains - much more unique. These are most likely to be found on all AVE services from Madrid except to Sevilla and Barcelona as well as on the direct Sevilla - Barcelona services.
