Hi Guys,
I am planning a trip around europe for me and 4 friends starting 18th june, using the 22 day ticket.

The main places we want to go are - Paris, Monaco/Nice, Milan, Ljubjana, Zagreb, Bratislava, Krakow, Auschwitz, Prague, Berlin and Amsterdam. Also has anyone been to the Ardeche on the the way through France as part of an interrail?

I would like some advice on costs (How much are hostels each night?) and how much should we budget for the whole trip?
Also what sort of route should we do to get all these places in (Are there any night trains at no supplementary costs?)
Another issue we have is getting to france from england, i know that eurostar isnt included in interrail price, so what is the best way/cheapest way to start the trip?

Many Thanks James

Hi James.

Your trip could be like that (the trains only as examples, there are much more connections available):

UK-France: either by ferry Dover-Calais:
https://rail.cc/en/ferry-london-paris-england-france/f1222
Or as well from Harwich to Hoeck van Hollan (see at the end for your way back home from Amsterdam)

Paris-Nice: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/france/fr

Nice-Milan: https://rail.cc/en/train/marseille-to-milan

Milan-Ljubljana: use day trains, then cross the border this way:
https://rail.cc/en/venice-ljubljana-train/f3664

Ljubljana-Zagreb: by day train - https://rail.cc/en/ljubljana-zagreb-train/f4001

Zagreb-Belgrade-Budapest-Bratislava: think about a stop in Budapest or Belgrade. And only a short one in Bratislava.
You can use day trains...

https://rail.cc/en/belgrade-vienna-night-train/f1905

Bratislava-Krakow: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-krakow-night-train/f3304

Krakow-Auschwitz: day trip

Krakow-Prague: https://rail.cc/en/krakow-prague-night-train/f3847

Prague-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/prague-berlin-train/f3360

Berlin-Amsterdam: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-amsterdam-train/f2407

Amsterdam-UK: Have a look at the ferry service from Hoeck van Holland to Harwich.

For hostels just check the website [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]
There are some night trains with free seats. But I recommend cheap couchettes. For details on night trains see the country topics.

Concerning your budget just calculate PER DAY, PER PERSON:
food: EUR 5
beer: EUR 5
accommodation: EUR 20
extras: EUR 5
TOTAL per day per person: EUR 35
35 X 22 days= ~EUR 700
This is only an example. :)

And don't forget: if you want to support our project and the forum, buy your official InterRail pass via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] ...
Thank you, Peter :)

Would be a little tricky to do with InterRail as the Ardeche departement is the only in France where there is no public rail transport. :|

Thanks Guys, some very helpful information

The main bit of the trip i am confused about is getting from zagreb to vienna/bratislava
I managed to find a night train from zagreb to vienna, which stops at salzburg on the way, has anyone used this train before and is it a good route to take?

Many Thanks, James

Hi!

Zagreb dep 0725 | 1550
Wien arr 1358 | 2155

From Wien you have frequent connections to Bratislava (at least one train per hour).

There is no direct night train! You could go via Salzburg overnight, but that would require a change of trains at either Villach or Salzburg in the middle of the night.
