Hey all, first time interrailers here looking for some advice and info!
We have our global passes bought and are planning on travelling the route Paris-Rome-Venice-Budapest-Warsaw-Berlin-Amsterdam.
We have a 15 day continuous pass. We plan on travelling by night train for most of the journeys as they are quite spread apart.
The only one I've managed to find a place to make a reservation for is the Paris to Rome journey. In peoples experience is it necessary to make reservations quite far in advance? (We are travelling in mid July!)
Also just wondering what size rucksack we shoud take and if anyone has any suggestions of what one to buy say from Amazon or the like?
We were planning on spending one or two nights in most places, and 3 nights in Amsterdam at the end to relax from all the travelling! would anyone suggest otherwise?
Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance for any info :)

Hi.
I recommend a backpack of a max size of 55 litres. Should be really enough especially when using hostels. Maybe a camping stove will be useful to save some money by cocking by yourself.
Concerning reservations: hard or nearly impossible to buy them online (as it is recommended to buy them some days in advance especially in July!). Here is information about the trains and how to get the reservation:
Paris-Rome: https://rail.cc/en/paris-florence-rome-night-train/f1453
You said you have a place to buy the reservation.
Rome-Venice: by day train.
Pay attention to the Italian supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
Use the schedule planer to find cheap connections: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
For example:
Roma Termini Dep: 1036 | by IC train (reservation not required, but recommended)
Venezia Santa Lucia Arr: 1649
Journey time about ~6hours. With expensive Eurostar Italia you can do it in the half of time.
Venice-Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/venice-budapest-night-train/f1487
Try to get this supplement already in Paris. Or via the trenitalia.it website:
https://rail.cc/en/italy-train-supplement-online-booking/f2949
Budapest-Warszawa: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-warsaw-night-train/f4264
Reservation should only be possible then in Budapest. Do it at your arrival day.
Warszawa-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/warsaw-warszawa-berlin-train/f3964
Supplement shouldn't be a problem for the day trains. You will get it directly in Warszawa station.
Berlin-Amsterdam: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-amsterdam-train/f2407
Free by day trains - or online for the night train (see the link above).

Thank you. :)
Have a sunny trip, Peter :)
