Hey everyone,
How much extra is it to sleep in a berth/couchette? I read on here that it was included in the Interrail pass, but that seems surprisingly generous :D Any rough idea about price?

Hi.
Have a look here:
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
Nearly all European night trains are listed there.
Some night trains have free seats, but in general you will have to pay an extra supplement depending on the category you want.
At the same time you save the money for a hostel.

Thanks :)
Also, if you want to pay the supplement for a berth, should you book in advance, or can you just pay at the station? And also, where can you book them? Just the national train company's site?

Some trains you can book online, all others at train stations.
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
It is recommended to buy reservations for night some days in advance when travelling in the summer months.

Ok, I'm really confused.
I plan to go on the following three sleepers:
Krakow - Prague
Prague - Berlin
Berlin - Malmo
Where can I book berth supplements? Especially for the first two, I can't seem to find anything. Is there a site, or do I have to go to the station? :S

Hi!
Krakow - Praha: Not possible online, you have to do it at a station
Praha - Berlin: Should be possible online, follow the link (bottom of the page, reservation): https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de However, I recommend to travel this journey during the day since the money for a couchette/sleeper would be wasted for a trip of only little more than five hours (Praha dep 0333 - Berlin arr 0854) It is a nice journey, especially until Dresden where you travel along the Elbe river. :)
Berlin - Malmö: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/berlin-malmoe-en-300/58 You will have to get the reservation at a train station as well...I dont think that the online reservation as described in the first link will work for this train as it isnt operated by Deutsche Bahn.

Hi.
You will have to buy these reservations at a station.
Concerning Prague-Berlin, you do not need a reservation, use a free day train!
It is not worth using the night train there!
Krakow-Prague: https://rail.cc/en/krakow-prague-night-train/f3847
Prague-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/prague-berlin-train/f3360
Berlin-Malmö: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/berlin-malmoe-en-300/58
I do not know where you start exactly, but you can buy the reservations already before in an other country than your night train starts. For example if you start somewhere in Vienna, buy there the reservations at one of the big stations. Should be possible.
Don't hesitate to ask if you need more help. :)

P.S.: and Flow was faster. ;)

Thanks guys! I'm happy to do it in a station beforehand, I just wasn't sure how easy it would be. I'm starting in Krakow - could I do all three there? Or maybe the first two there, then the last one in Berlin?

The first two should be possible in Krakow.
The third one: try it. Try it as well in Prague... if not possible in Krakow. As earlier you have the supplements, as better it is - as long your travel dates are fixed. :)

Hello, please help me to clarify this matter.
If I buy a 5 days in 10 days pass, my first travel date is 21 May 2010 at 21:25 from Belgrade to Budapest. The last trip will be at 13:59 on 30 May 2010 from Prague to Belgrade (arriving at 06:29 on 31 May 2010). In this case, is it possible to get the last trip with my 5 days in 10 days pass? Or I have to buy another ticket for the last trip?
Many thanks,
KaL

Hi KaL!
No, unfortunately this is not possible.
Explanation:
The 5 in 10 InterRail Global Pass allows to choose 5 train travel days within in a 10 days validity period. In your case, you can make use of the 1900hrs rule for direct night trains for your first trip, but nevertheless, this requires you to have 21st May 2010 as the first day on which your pass is valid (start date of the 10 days) even though the first train travel day (of the 5) you pick is 22nd May 2010 (because of the 1900hrs rule). Thus the validity period of your pass ends on 30th May 2010 2359hrs (end date of the 10 days). And that's why even if you have a train travel day left you cannot use it for your last trip. You can however use it for part of your last trip, Prague – Budapest on 30th May 2010.
1900hrs rule: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
By the way (just asking, because Belgrade is the start and the end of your tour), are you from Serbia? Because if Serbia was your country of residence https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail , your InterRail Pass won't be valid there. But I guess you are already aware of this rule.

Hi Puck,
Yep, I'm from Serbia. If my country of residence is Serbia, I still have to pay the fee for the trip from Belgrade to Hungary even having the IR? If so, I will regist the first day of travel will be the day I leave Hungary (around 26 May). Is it better for me??
And on the way back, the trip from Prague to Belgrade is ok with the IR, am I right?
Many thanks for your reply.
KaL.

Hi!
You will have to pay until the border, or, if the train doesnt stop there until the first stop in Hungary. In your case this would mean that you would need a regular ticket up to Kelebia. From there you can continue your travel with the InterRail ticket.
Same thing applies for your way back.
It is possible to get a 50% reduction on the ticket to the border, but only within the period of validity of your pass!
