Hi,
My partner and I are going to try interrailing for the 1st time this summer, using the 5 journeys in 10 days ticket. Would you be able to tell me which parts of this route we will be able to do without paying any extra supplements? Although we did think we might splash out on private couchettes on the overnight train to brasov if they exist. Once we are sure our route will working we'll buy our tickets from your website. Thank you!
- train journey 1 on 31/07 berlin to munich
- train journey 2 on 01/08 munich to vienna
- get the ferry down the river danube from vienna to budapest on 03/08
- train journey 3 get the overnight train after 7pm on 05/08 from budapest to brasov, romania arriving on 06/08
- train journey 4 on 08/08 brasov to bucharest
- train journey 5 on 09/08 bucharest to sofia

Hi!
I recommend to get at least a reservation for a couchette for the overnight trip Budapest - Brasov. YOu have two train options there: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-bucharest-night-train/f1605
Then you would also need a reservation for Bukarest - Sofia, but that wont be expensive. Also you might need a reservation for Brasov - Bukarest but that depends on train category.
For detailed train schedules look here: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
If you have any other questions, just let us know. :)

As you stop in Brasov, I am sure you want to visit Bran as well... ;)

Hi,
Thank you both for your quick replies. Yes I think we might go to Dracula's castle- it seems a shame not to when we will be so near by...
Just one more thing- for the trains between Berlin and Vienna can we just turn up and get straight on the train, without having to make a reservation?
Thanks!

If you travel by day trains you won't need reservations:
Supplement free ICE train from Berlin-Nürnberg
Supplement free ICE train from Nürnberg to Vienna.
Or via Munich and then by free Railjet to Vienna ...
Train schedules: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
The night train is with a supplement:
