Hello!

We would like to take our first ever train journey around Europe using the Global Interrail Pass for 22 continuos days to make the most of the ticket before we turn 26. I just wanted to see if the journey we would like to take is a good idea or whether we are doing too much and also whether it is possible. If you have suggestions of train times (even though it is over a year away so they may change by then) or any ideas for the itinerary then I would love to hear from you! We don't mind if we need to take night trains and we're happy to stay in hotels. Also, if you know any stops we can get off at along the way to spend a bit of time somewhere else and back on the next train that'd be fun. Another question is: is it best to book hotels in advance or when you get places?

We would like to start our journey in Munich, we will spend 2 nights here before we start our rail journey.

We would like to take a trip to Füssen so that we can visit Neuschwanstein Castle to start our train ticket off.

We would then like to move on to Salzburg (evening?) and spend 2 nights there

Then we would like to travel on to Innsbruck (evening?) and spend 2 nights there.

Then we hoped to leave in the morning and go to Ljubjana via somewhere in Italy, possibly Trieste, getting to Ljubjana in the evening. We will stay in Ljubjana for 2 night and take a trip to Lake Bled on the second day. I imagine this will be done by bus?

From Lake Bled bus back to Ljubjana and then, we will go straight on to Zagreb (get there evening/night).

1 night Zagreb, then on to Belgrade in the evening/night, either staying in a hotel in Belgrade or on sleeper train.

Have the day in Belgrade, then on to Sofia, perhaps stopping in Nis if possible.

1 or 2 night(s) in Sofia depending on when we arrive, a visit to Rila Monestary and Plovdiv (perhaps staying here) before travelling on to Istanbul.

Spend a less rushed time here, maybe 3 nights.

Then journey to Bucharest, maybe stop in Veliko Tarnovo on the way to break the journey. A night in Bucharest.

We'd like to see Transylvania, so maybe on to Brasov and spend 1 night here, with time to explore Bran.

Then over to Budapest (if we need to break up journey between Brasov and Budapest could stop in Cluj Napoca and/or Debrecen), a couple of nights in Budapest.

Make our way over to Vienna, but have a short stop off in Bratislava (maybe half a day or get there in the evening and stay the night or what the train timetables allows).

Fly back from Vienna or somewhere close to Vienna that is cheaper!

Many thanks for looking and hopefully you can make this dream trip possible!

Thanks, Dan

There are some cheap airlines flying from Bratislava to all European destinations.
