Hello,

I will go this summer from Istanbul to Patras.

I'll spend 3 or 4 days in Athens, and I would like to visit another city.

Where can I go?

(I will change the train in THESSALONIKI, but it seems to be very industrialised.)

So I would like to know the travel of the train between THESSALONIKI and Athens to find the possible stops.
(the train Istanbul Thessaloniki is on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] but not the train Thessaloniki - Athens neither Athens - Patras)

But maybe it's better to spend more time in Athens and not visit another city...

Thank you in advance for your advices

Etienne

Hoi!

My suggestions is to spend 3 days at Athens will be enough.. and 1-2 days at Thessaloníki (although it seems industrialized it's a nicer city comparing to Athens) , smaller towns on this route are on the sea side such as Katerini or Volos (have to change a train for Volos).
From Thessaloníki to Athens i recommend to use the train but from Athens to Patras try to avoid the train and use the bus connection.. (i will update my suggestions if there is a progress on the works )

Since you are going to be in the North Greece you can visit very beautiful place – Meteora. These are six monasteries built on natural sandstone rock pillars. The nearest town is Kalambaka.
I would definitely recommend to spend at least 2 days in this place. But from what I know that there is only one train going straight from Thessaloniki to Kalambaka at 17.59 (arrives 20.51) . Or another option you first is to get Proastiakos (Suburban) train from Thessaloniki to Larisa and then another train from Larisa to Kalambaka . You have only one combination for this option: Thessaloniki – Larisa (5.08 - 6.41) Larisa – Kalambaka (7.25 - 8.49)

Hello,
I was in Greece last month and I loved the country. I was in Korinthos (in a camping near the beach), then in Athens, a city with lots of monuments to see, Alexandroupolis (only to pick a bus to Istanbul that never appeared), Thessaloniki, a big city, looks more a capital than Athens, and Kassandra Peninsula, again in a camping near the beach. Potidea has a very very nice beach, it's nice when you have time to rest a little from the big cities.

Have a nice trip :)
