Hey! Long time reader, first time poster. So my friends are I are planning this trip using the 5 in 10 days pass. We live in England and the first step would be to hop on the Eurostar and head to Paris but I'm assuming that doesn't use one of our travel days ...right?
I was just wondering if a 5 travel days would be sufficient to get to all these places - my biggest fear would be running out of travel days :'( . Especially the final leg of the trip from Amsterdam back to London via Paris. I was looking through this forum and decided that we would probably use the ferry back from Paris to London and roughly how much the journey from Amsterdam back to London would cost overall using trains and ferry?
Thanks in advance.

Hi!
How much time do you have for your trip? Only the 10 days of the IR pass or maybe some days longer? If you have more time, you can go to Paris by Eurostar (buy a regular ticket in advance - if you book early enough it will be cheaper than the supplement you have to pay when using Eurostar with IR) and activate your IR pass only the day you leave for Roma. That would leave you with enough time and travel days for all cities - you would even have the possibility of making a day trip to another place.
With the 5in10 you will be able to use the 1900-rule: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
You can make use of this rule for instance on the trip Paris - Roma or Roma - Berlin. That means that if you plan carefully you would only need three travel days for the whole trip - enough spare days if something goes wrong or you decide to make a stop along your route. :)
Paris - Roma night train: https://rail.cc/en/paris-florence-rome-night-train/f1453
Roma - München night train (continue to Berlin with free ICE train): https://rail.cc/en/rome-berlin-train/f3393
Berlin - Paris: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-paris-train/f2545
The above connections are just examples - if you prefer to go during the day the are of course many other options available - use the schedule planner: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
If you want to I'd suggest going to Roma via the Cote d'Azur and the Ligurian Coast - go with TGV to Nice for one or two days and then continue to Roma via Genova, La Spezia and Livorno.
To get back to the UK, have a look at these topics:

If you have further questions, just ask. And if you like the work here at the forum and website, please buy your offical InterRail ticket via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - thank you. :)

Hey flo, thanks for your help. I appreciate the work you do on this forum and I'm sure many others do as well. I'll definitely buy my IR ticket here.
Going to Nice sounds like a really great idea but I was wondering, from Paris to Nice and from Nice to Roma - this would take two travel days right? Or would it work out cheaper to just buy the train tickets and save the travel days? I'm so confused :| how you would do this?
thanks

Hi!
Yeah, it would require two travel days. But you wont need extra tickets, you'll be fine with the 5in10 pass, especially when you go to Paris by Eurostar (or even by plane...) and start your IR ticket there.
Travel day 1 Paris - Nice
:arr: ie Paris Gare de Lyon 0942 - 1524 Nice Ville with TGV, supplement 3 or 10 €...probably 10€ but I'm not sure since it depends on peak/off-peak times
Travel day 2 Nice - Roma
:arr: ie Nice Ville 0923 - 1012 Ventimiglia 1022 - 1225 Savona 1308 - 1408 Genova Piazza Principe 1452 - 1950 Roma Termini :arr: from Genova to Roma you'll need a 10€ reservation since it is an ESCity train
Travel day 3 Roma - Berlin
:arr: make use of the 1900-rule - I posted the link for the overnight connection before ;)
Travel day 4 Berlin - Amsterdam/Hook van Holland/Paris/Calais
:arr: you can get to all these destinations easily within a single day
Leaves you with one spare day - you could use it to go to Berlin via the Swiss Alps and take a night train Basel - Berlin for instance.
