Hey Guys!

Me and 3 mates are in Barcelona right now, trying to get to Montpellier tomorrow, but theres a rail strike on in France so we cant get there by train. Any advice on how else we could get there? Preferably without us having to spend too much money. The staff at the Barcelona station didnt know when the strike would end. We are thinking about getting a train to Portbou, walking across the border to Cerbere, then gettin a train (hoping they are running within france) to Montpellier.

Any advice will be much appreciated :)

Hi!

Sorry to hear that. :| Here's the schedule for tommorow... http://www.ter-sncf.com/Images/Languedoc_Roussillon/Tridion/littoral%20entier%2012%20S1_tcm22-38263.pdf

I dont know about buses running in that area, sorry. I had a quick look at the SNCF site and it seems that the strike is worst in south-eastern France. Hm...maybe go to Toulouse via Latour de Carol: http://www.ter-sncf.com/Images/Midi_Pyrenees/Tridion/TLSE-LATOUR%20A4_tcm25-38684.pdf Train from Barcelona Sants to Latour de Carol leaves at 0917 and arrives at 1238.

Some info from the SNCF site: http://www.infolignes.com/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=12 and http://www.ter-sncf.com/Regions/languedoc_roussillon/Fr/Etat_du_trafic/Default.aspx

Hi!

What kind of InterRail pass are you travelling with? How many (travel) days are left of your pass?

You can check for detailed strike info here: http://www.infolignes.com/sommaire.php3
If you need any translation of particular parts, let me know. In general it might be a better idea to cross France via Hendaye - Bordeaux rather than via Perpignan and Lyon.

The fact that both the Elipsos night trains Madrid/Barcelona - Paris as well as the Lunéa night trains within France Hendaye/Cerbère - Paris aren't running makes things even trickier. However, I'd suggest to make your way to Irun/Hendaye via Madrid:

Valencia Nord 0750 - 1138 Madrid Chamartin :arr: compulsory reservation!
Madrid Chamartin 1313 - 1845 Vitoria/Gasteiz
Vitoria/Gasteiz 1900 - 2108 Irun

In Madrid you have enough time to check for more information for the following day to Paris. You should be able to stay overnight at Irun, friends of mine did so last summer. If you dont want to do that you could leave the train a little bit earlier and stay at San Sebastian. However, due to the limited service in France, it would be best to stay at Irun or Hendaye overnight.

Here is a link for the guaranteed service of next Monday: :| http://www.ter-sncf.com/Images/Aquitaine/Tridion/Bordeaux%20-Hendaye%2019%20avril_tcm11-40013.pdf
There might be additional services working but they probably are announced at short notice.

Sorry I cant help you more right now. I'll have a look and try to keep this updated - also, check the links above. :)

Just the opposite for us. We have come from Berlin to Narbonne and are trying to get to Barcelona. We had to hire a car from Strasbourg. SNCF updated site is infolignes.com but wee have found it best to go to station the night before where they appear to know what trains are running the following day. Some trains are going to Montpellier and SNCF will let you use your ticket on any train either the day before the day you should or the day after. No seat reservations

Forgot to say that there are coaches running from Barcelona to Montpelier. Try Eurolines web site. We'll wave as we pass you if our train to Barcelona from Narbonne doesn't go tomorrow!
