Hey forum! i am planning a trip for my brother and i. I have the 22 day interrail pass and im hoping to see as much as i can in those days!

The plan is to go to these cities in this order:

Paris
Barcelona
Marseille
Nice
Monacco
Lake Como
Florence
Rome
Herculaneum
Croatia
Prague
Germany

and then end in Paris again...

is this too much to fit in to 22 days? are there any cities i should avoid or substitute with something else? Any suggestions on trains? Thanks in advance for the help!!

Hi Ben.

With a 22 days pass it should be okay. If you get in a hurry, skip one of the cities - just decide spontaneously during your trip.

Some links to train connections:

Paris-Barcelona: definitely use the route trough the Pyrenees using as well the Petit Train Jaune - either on your way to Barcelona or back in direction of Marseilles.
https://rail.cc/en/paris-pyrenees-barcelona-le-petit-tain-jaune/f4023
https://rail.cc/en/petit-train-jaune-latour-de-carol/f1343
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/france/fr

Barcelona-Marseilles: either using the Petit Train Jaune or one of the following solutions...
https://rail.cc/en/train/marseille-to-nice
https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

Marseilles-Nice: use a free Regional day train.
I recommend to stay in Nice (from there you can have as well day trips to Cannes or Monaco and so on):
https://rail.cc/en/nice/accommodation/c

Nice-Lake Como (Lecco for example): several options by free day trains. Just as an example:

Nice Ville Dep: 1023 | free Regional train
Ventimiglia Arr 1112

Ventimiglia Dep: 1150 | free Regional train
Finale Ligure Marina Arr: 1337

Finale Ligure Marina Dep: 1433 | free Regional train
Milano Centrale Arr: 1737

Milano Centrale Dep: 1750 | free Regional train
Lecco Arr: 1836

In Italy use day trains but pay attention to supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
You will always find free connections. Slower but free then: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

From Italy in direction to Croatia you have as well several options. One is by ferry: https://rail.cc/en/ferry-italy-croatia/f2338
Or via Slovenia using the unofficial way - but fast: https://rail.cc/en/venice-ljubljana-train/f3664

From Croatia to Prague maybe have a stop at Lake Balaton (Siofok) or better in Budapest and Krakow. Both cities really worth to stay:
several day train connections - use schedule planer mentioned above, with changes in either Zidani Most or Vienna.

Budapest-Krakow: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-krakow-night-train/f3304

Krakow-Prague: https://rail.cc/en/krakow-prague-night-train/f3847

Then Prague-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/prague-berlin-train/f3360

Berlin-Paris: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-paris-train/f2545

I hope this will help you. I recommend to reserve for example the last night train (Berlin-Paris) already at your departure in Paris, as you know your return date and in summer this train is easily booked out.

Other travel route could be Berlin-Amsterdam:

Amsterdam-Paris: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-amsterdam-train/f2407

I hope this answer will help you planing your tour. And if you like our forum and all the work, support it and buy your official InterRail pass via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] ... Thank you!
Peter :)

Wow Peter! Thank you so much! That's as thorough as I could hope for! So with my pass do i need to reserve places on these trains? Or is it possible/smart to just jump on a train and go? Is Berlin-Paris the only one i should reserve?

Thank you so much for the help!

Most trains are free, especially the ones I mentioned.
Just click the topics. For night trains you have to pay a reservation for a bed or seat - see as well the links.

So you will definitely need reservations for:
1 Paris - direction of Barcelona (using a night train, but it is cheap)
2 Maybe in Italy, depends on which trains you use - see links, but slower trains are free.
3 Budapest-Krakow when using the night train
4 Krakow-Prague when using the night train
5 Berlin - Paris when using the night train

But keep in mind: using a night train will save you travel time and as well the money for a hostel.
Peter :)
