Hello all!
I'm a first-time interrailer from the UK in the final stages of planning my trip this summer! Most of my questions have been answered through other forum posts (thank you!) but I have a couple of queries about the EN 240 night train.
I'm planning to take the train from Zagreb to Venezia Mestre and would like to know how far in advance I should book it to make sure myself and two friends will be able to get berths in a 6 bed couchette or seats (but the couchette would be better!). We will arrive in Zagreb on a Saturday night (too late for the offices at the station to be open, I guess) and want to take the night train on Monday night. Obviously this doesn't leave much time to reserve the seats/couchette at Zagreb station (and I'm not sure it would be possible on a Sunday), as well as the problem of language (my Croatian is non-existent!). Therefore I was wondering whether it would be possible to reserve this night train at another station in Europe a week or so in advance? We will be in Krakow, Prague, Bratislava and Vienna beforehand.
By the way, our trip is in August so I guess all the trains will be quite busy, hence why I'd like to book in advance to be sure! We're on quite a tight schedule and our hostels will be booked in advance so missing a night train would be a bit of a problem!

Thank you in advance!
:D

P.S. Could anyone give any advice about which stations out of those listed above are most likely to have staff who speak English or German?

Hi!

You can certainly make this reservation in Vienna - try either at Meidling or Westbahnhof (assuming you arrive from Bratislava you could try at Ostbahnhof as well). They should also understand at least some basic english there so no worries...if you want to make sure everything works out you could also write a little note with date, train etc to show them - and show them your InterRail passes as well! :)
It should also be no problem to get these reservations in Krakow or Bratislava...

Ok, thank you very much for the information!
We'll only be in Vienna a couple of days before, so do you think this will still leave enough time to ensure a place? If not I guess it won't be a problem to reserve in Krakow or Bratislava, as long as we can make ourselves understood! :D

Thank you again, especially for the quick reply! :)

No problem. :) As long as you arent travelling on a peak date I think it will be sufficient to make the reservation in Vienna - but if you know the date already try in Krakow or Bratislava to be on the safe side. ;)
