helloo,
im a 18 year old girl, never been travelling before and plan to travel Europe for a month at the beginning of June and just want to know a few things!
what am i supposed to take?
1. i want to camp but dont want to take a tent, are there lots of campsites available?
2. is it safe camping?
3. how safe is it for females to travel, and are there any countries i should be more cautious about than others?
4. are there any places anyone would recommend definatly going?
5. shall i find someone to travel with?
6. is it busy for travelling at that time of year?
7. which are the more expensive countries in Europe?
8. i dont want to be carrying a bag around all day, is there secure places i can leave them if ive been camping the night before?
i do apologise for the amount of questions, but if anyone would like like to answer them it would be much appreciated! and any tips for first time travellers wouldnt go a miss either :)
thank you :D

Hi Kimberley.
Here the answers I can give you:
1. Campsites are outside the city centres. And in most cases fare away from the train stations so that you will need a bus (have to pay extra) or walk in most cases. Therefore I recommend to stay in a hostel. It will be approximately the same money you spent - as camping alone is expensive as you pay per place. An other solution is to sleep sometimes somewhere in nature, beside a little village with a little station.
2. Camping is safe - but don't leave values in your tent. In hostels you normally have lockers.
3. Most European cities are the same. A dark corner of London is same dangerous like one in Athens.
Maybe just join other travelers when using a night train. Talk to them.
4. Depends on your character and your likes and dislikes. Europe is big. :) I love Eastern Europe (Krakow, Budapest, Ljubljana, ...) as it is cheaper than Western Europe and a lot to do and to go out in the evening.
5. If you stay in hostels, you will meet easily other travelers to travel together for some days. It is sometimes nice to have someone beside who you can trust, as then someone can go in the supermarket and the other ones waits in front with the backpacks.
6. June is still okay. At mid/end of June it will become more and more busy in trains and hostels.
7. Western Europe is expensive, Eastern cheap. And the typical tourist cities are as well more expensive than the unknown ones. Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, ... are expensive. Ljubljana, Krakow, Zagreb, Sofia cheaper.
8. Hostels have always luggage rooms where you can leave your backpack before you check in or after you checked out. You will find as well lockers at most European railway stations.
I hope these answers will help you. Do not hesitate to ask if you have some more questions. And if you like our forum, support it and buy your tickets at our partner [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]

Hi!
That's a good idea and absolutely no problem to activate your InterRail pass only when you leave Paris. You will just need to think in advance when you want to leave Paris since it's necessary to declare a starting date for the IR pass when you order it.
You will find information about getting from the UK to France here: https://rail.cc/en/ferry-london-paris-england-france/f1222 and https://rail.cc/en/london-paris-eurostar-train/f1805

Hi!
Sorry, I obiously forgot to answer... 8)
Well, what to you like to see and do - nature, small villages, larger cities, nightlife, relaxing, etc...?
Some random suggestions:
- Swimming at one of the Carinthian Lakes (Wörther See, Faaker See, Ossiacher See,...)
- Graz (obvious, as it is my hometown ;) ) - a relaxed student city with some nice museums, fine old town (UNESCO Heritage Site), great nightlife,... 8)
- Salzkammergut - beautiful landscape, some lakes; you can go by train to ie Bad Ischl, Bad Goisern, Bad Aussee and Hallstatt
- Wien of course
- Salzburg is nice but touristy
- and many more... just let me know if you need further details or information about a specific place
Some scenic railroads:
- Semmeringbahn on the way from Vienna to Graz
- Arlbergbahn between Innsbruck and Vorarlberg/Switzerland
- Tauernbahn on the way from Salzburg to Carinthia
All these go over the Alps with nice views :)
- Wachaubahn (limited services only) - you'll pass through vineyards along the Danube
- Gesäusebahn (limited service only) - travel through spectacular gorges
