I've checked online the times and transfers needed for this overnight journey but have a few questions.
Luxembourg-Royal Quai2 dep 19:10 Bus 154
Saarbrücken Hbf arr 20:30
Saarbrücken Hbf dep 20:59 ICE 9559
Frankfurt(Main)Hbf arr 22:58
Frankfurt(Main)Hbf dep 23:21 EN 421
Wien Westbahnhof arr 09:04
Will there be an extra charge for the bus between Luxembourg and Saarbrucken? If so, is this likely to be substantial?
Will the train travel be covered completely by my Interrail ticket or not?
Does the time between train arrivals/departures give me a reasonably chance of catching the transfer in time?
Kind regards,
Ben

Hi!
Where and for what date did you find this connection by bus? I don't find it in HAFAS (the online schedule planner) and therefore don't think that the bus travel is included in InterRail. There rest of the trains are and connection time should be sufficient. You would need to pay a supplement for the night train: https://rail.cc/en/cologne-frankfurt-vienna-night-train/f3740
However, if you don't mind arriving in Vienna around noon I'd recommend the following connection:
Luxembourg 2115 - 2211 Metz
Metz 2238 - 0716 München
München 0727 - 1140 Wien
The night train is a CNL train which will be cheaper than the Frankfurt - Wien night train: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/germany/de

hi Flo :) thanks for your help.
I found these times on oebb.at - is this something you know about?
Taking the route that you suggest, would the only charge come from paying extra for the Metz-Munich night train?

I'm quite familiar with that site. ;) I didnt find this particular connection since I was searching for today (sunday) when this bus isnt running. However, although these buses are operated by CFL (Luxembourg Railways) I'm not sure if you can use them with the InterRail pass. At least you would need to get an additional reservation.
I just wrote them a mail...as soon as I get a response, I'll let you know.

Hi!
I already got a response today - kudos to CFL! :)
Bonjour
Le pass Interrail n'est pas valable pour le bus Saarbrücken Express. Le prix pour un aller est de 14€. Vous pouvez acheter les billets au guichet juste avant le départ.
Meilleures salutations
Info Gare Luxembourg
So - InterRail isnt valid, sorry. A single ticket is 14€ and you can buy it directly at the counter before the departure.
