Hi,

Myself and my girlfriend are headed to Greece to work for the summer. Our plan is to go to Kephalonia and see if we can find work there. (hold thumbs for us)

Problem is that we are south Africans and we arrive in Paris on 16th April. We want to spend a few days in Paris then make our way down to Greece.

What is the best way to do so. We don't have a lot of money and wouldn't mind seeing taking the scenic route but still want to get there relatively quickly.

Is interrail the right thing for us?

PLEASE HELP, this is starting to get stressful and, living in Africa, not too many people know the answers to our questions.

Hi.
No problem to ask, that's why we run this forum . :)

First: as you are not European residents or did not lived the last six months (or longer) in an European country, you will have to buy an EURAIL ticket which is nearly the same like InterRail.
For more details and the different variations of the ticket, follow the links of this website: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]

To you route.
If you want to travel the fast way, do it like this:

Paris-Roma by night train:
https://rail.cc/en/eurail/paris-to-rome

Roma-Brindisi by night or day train - attention to supplements:
https://rail.cc/en/eurail/rome-to-brindisi

Schedules: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it

Brindisi-Patras by ferry:
https://rail.cc/en/eurail/brindisi-to-patras

From there continue by bus or train - see the country topic of Greece:
https://rail.cc/en/eurail-in-greece

If you have some special wishes concerning your route, let me know and I will give you the details.

Have fun planing your tour, Peter :)

Thanks for the reply, we are in fact both travelling on EU passports so Im sure that we can use interrail. Correct?

I see that on all those links it says something like the following.
_________________________________________________________
bed in a single sleeper (only 1st class)
Rail pass fare: EUR 67-85
Standard fare: EUR 160-183

bed in a double sleeper (only 1st class)
Rail pass fare: EUR 41-43
Standard fare: EUR 103-128
__________________________________________________________

Do these costs only apply if you are wanting a room? I thought interrailing was free once you had bought the ticket.

What would be the best ticket for us to buy to make this trip? Can we buy inter rail tickets in Paris?

With an EU passport you can buy InterRail tickets. But keep in mind that InterRail isn't valid in your country of residence (=country of the passport).
If you had your residency in South Africa the last 6 or more months, you normally have to buy an Eurail pass.

For this trip a 5 days in 10 InterRail Global Pass will be the best solution.

You can buy the tickets at a big station in Paris, if you want to support our work and not only a big anonymous company, buy them here at our partner [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Delivery is possible to South Africa by secure and express mail. Calculate a maximum of a week for delivery (see shop for details).

Concerning the supplements:

- InterRail is not valid in your country of residence:
https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail

- some high speed trains and night trains need a supplement (like a hostel for a bed):
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
And check the country topics of our forum .

Everything is mentioned on the website.
Some night trains have free seats. All information at the specific topics.

And of course it would be nice if all night trains would be free - but to be honest: if you could buy a 1-month-InterRail pass for 450 EUR or something and you sleep for free 30 nights in beds of night trains and at the same time travel the whole Europe ... I think the national railway companies would throw away InterRail within one month for economically reasons. ;)

Peter :)
