I'm planning on travelling with a group of around 3 friends around Europe for a month continous from start of July. Starting in Paris, we're hoping to go up through Belgium, Holland, Germany, then back down and across (this part of the trip is still a little hazy) towards Italy, then eventually end up in Barcelona or Valencia. We want to try to remain quite flexible, spending a couple of days in each place, but is there any set rule with regards to booking hostels, like, would it be ok for us to book ahead a day or two in advance, or would that be leaving it too late? Or is it more chilled out than that, and can we just turn up at hostels having not already booked? Any advice regarding booking hostels, prices, and just on accomodation in general would be HUGELY appreciated.

THANKS LOADS :D

Hi!

Well, in July is high season so it might be a good idea to book the hostel ~2, 3 days in advance, especially in popular cities like Paris or Amsterdam. If you want to stay as flexible as possible and book only the day before you leave a city for the next one it might happen that the hostel you wanted to go to is full already. Then you have several options; - you could have a look for cheap Hotels like Etap, Formule1 etc - they have pretty good fares, and although they are usually a bit away from the centre you have a nice place to stay; - while traveling in the Benelux area you could even decide to go to another city first since distances are quite close; - you could also book one night in another hostel and try to get a room in the other hostel for the rest of the stay; - extend your stay in the city you currently are and maybe use a night train to go to the next city

To book hostels have a look at [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]

Hope that helps for the start.
