Hey im leaving at the end of July on a month global pass. Im planning on spending 3 night in each city, with the ticket not starting till the last night in Berlin. I was wondering if i could get any info on the best train connections or a better route to take. I am planning to fly back home from Girona airport at the end of august, but would like to spend a few nights on the beach in the towns on the coast. Is their good train links to Girona from these towns?
I am planning on booking Berlin and Amsterdam in advance, but want to keep myself pretty flexible. Is it easy to book hostels a day or so in advance. esp for cities such as Paris and Milan. And will this affect the price?
Thank you. x

Hi!
For detailed route info you can check the online schedule planner:
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Some of the trains will require an additional supplement - check here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
In general the route you've planned is pretty straightforward so I wouldnt change anything. If you browse through our country boards at the forum you will find several topics dealing with each part of your route. For example:
https://rail.cc/en/berlin-amsterdam-train/f2407
https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-brussels-train-thalys/f3991
And so on...if you need further help, just tell. :)
If you have time, maybe add some cities around Bruxelles - there isnt that much to see in Bruxelles, but you can easily reach for example Bruges, Gent, Antwerpen etc...all very nice cities. You could stay several days in Bruxelles and visit some of those places as a daytrip. they are all in a ~1h distance from Bruxelles with excellent rail connections.
Concerning hostels: August is peak travel time so it might be a good idea to book some days in advance. You probably will still get a room if you book one day in advance but maybe not in the best houses. ;) In my experience Paris is a quite bad place regarding hostels...maybe you can avoid to go there at the weekend, that should help for the start. Then, since Bruxelles is so close it isnt that much of a problem if you wont find a nice place for the following day - just extend your stay in Bruxelles for one day and head for Paris the next day. :)
In high season I dont think that booking early or late will have much impact on the prices.
Milano - Barcelona:
There is a direct night train...quite expensive but you will save a lot of time and the money for a hostel: https://rail.cc/en/milan-barcelona-night-train/f1168
There'd be a day connection as well but I dont recommend going that way: You will have to pay a hostel night in Milano, then sit the whole day in several trains, arrive late in Barcelona and will have to pay a second hostel night. So if you want to go directly to Barcelona I recommend the night train.
If you dont want to go straight to Barcelona, go along the Cote d'Azur and stay some time in the Nice area. Very nice. :)
Girona airport is not directly served by train - you will have to get a taxi or bus from the city centre. The town itself is connected ~hourly (in peak times more often) with Barcelona. The main line to Barcelona is inland, but if you change at Macanet you will go along the coast.
Southern of Barcelona the line follows alomst the whole time along the coast to Valencia and continues to Gandia.
Hope that helped you for the beginning, if you have further questions please ask. And if you like the work here at the forum and website, buy your offical InterRail ticket at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] . Thank you. :)
