Hi I planning an interrailing trip this summer and coming up with a preliminary itinerary. The propsed route for the first half of the trip is from Paris to Zurich to Milan, to Rome, then proably back up Italy to Venice before heading down the Adriatic coast. Does anyone know if all these routes are included in the scope of an interrail global pass? In other words, should all these journeys be free with an interrail ticket? Thanks!

Hey Galatea!
Yes, all of the mentioned countries are covered by the InterRail Global Pass. But note, that it is not valid in Albania, in case you want to follow the Adriatic Coast all way south. And if one of the countries of your planned route is your country of residence, the pass won't allow you free train travel in the respective country but only a certain reduction on the normal fare - for further information on what is meant by country of residence, please see here:

Generally spoken, yes – the idea of the InterRail ticket is, that you can use all trains. But unfortunately some trains require you to buy a supplement or a compulsory reservation. Which trains exactly? Well, that varies from country to country. And therefore there is a list where you can find all the details here at railcc

It is often the fastest (high speed) trains or night trains that require you to buy such supplements or reservations, but then again not all of them (it is really very different, depending on the country). And often you can find an alternative, if you want to avoid these extra costs.
