Hello to all!
My friend and I are planning a tour of Italy. As we will be spending time at a friend's place in Milan, we thought we would take advantage of that.
We will therefore go from Milan to Venice as a day trip, and leave the next day for Florence, where we will spend the night before heading off to Rome. There we will spend two nights before heading off back to Milan to catch our flight.
This is the first time I use and Interail pass.
I'm having a very hard time working my way around this website regarding reservations.
Is it mandatory to make reservations for day trains or not? Any advice would really help, we are leaving in a month or so.
Thanks to all globe trotters!
xoxo

Hi.
In Italy you have different types of trains.
Some are free (slower ones), some are with supplements (faster ones).
For the ones you need a reservation, you can but it online.
Train scheduleshttps://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
The trains for which you will have to pay a supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it
Examples:
Milan-Venice (day train):
You have a direct connection every 30 minutes.
Just as an example:
Milano Centrale Dep: 0905 | by Intercity train (IC) - no supplement/reservation needed, but recommended: EUR 3
Venezia Arr: 1130
Journey time: 2:30h
Venice-Florence (day train):
You have connections every hour by direct EUROSTAR Italia trains - supplement EUR 10 (journey time: ~2 hours).
But there are as well slower connections by Regional trains - free of supplements.
Use the schedule planer and select without HST (=without HighSpeedTrains).
Florence-Rome (day train):
Several free Regional trains - journey time 3-4 hours.
Use the schedule planer and select without HST (=without HighSpeedTrains).
Rome-Milan (day train):
As well free connections available.
The best option for you will be a ITALY ONE Country InterRail Pass - 4 days within a month. If you order online via our webshop, you support our work and as well this answer. Thank you. :)
