Hi there

Me and my girlfriend are going away for a month from middle of July to middle of August this summer. We are getting the one month continuous pass and we were just looking for a few wee bits of advice. Our route looks like this...

Brussels (3nights with a day trip to Bruges) - Berlin (3 nights) - Prague(2 nights) - Budapest (3 nights) - Vienna (3 nights with day trip to Salzburg) - Munich (2 nights) - Ljubljana (3 nights with day trip to lake bled) - Rome (3 nights) - Interlaken (2 nights) - Bern (1 night) - Paris (3 nights)

We are pretty clued up on the train connections for these places but I'm finding it hard to work out a good way to go from Ljubljana to Rome? and also Rome to Interlaken avoiding the pricey supplements? Is it easiest to travel from Brussels to Amsterdam and then change and get train from Amsterdam to Berlin??

As far as the actual places we are visiting....we are quite a cultural couple and like a nice atmosphere and surroundings more than clubbing and nightlife, do you think the number of nights we are staying in each place is sufficient? Any other suggestions on day trips we could take? particularly in Ljubljana! Sorry for all the questions :)

Thanks

Hi.

1) Ljubljana - Rome:
do it this way: https://rail.cc/en/ljubljana-venice-train/f3663

Ljubljana Dep: 0808 | free Regional train
Sezana Arr: 1001
Sezana Dep: 1018 | free Regional train
Nova Gorica Arr: 1110

BUS - calculate 1 hour to be save.

Gorizia Centrale Dep: 1219 | free Regional train
Venezia Mestre Arr: 1444

You have a lot of trains on this route. If you miss one, there is an other within a maximum of 1 hour.

From Venice to Rome there are Eurostar trains (supplement EUR 10). Maybe think about the night train:
https://rail.cc/en/naples-rome-venice-night-train/f1514

Venezia Mestre Dep: 1509 | free Regional train
Bologna Centrale Arr: 1704

Bologna Centrale Dep: 1718 | IC train (reservation recommended - but free - no seat guarantee)
Roma Termini Arr: 2124

2) Rome - Interlaken:

Definitely a long journey - even with trains with supplements.

Roma Termini Dep: 0822 | IC train (reservation recommended - but free - no seat guarantee)
Milano Centrale Arr: 1505

Milano Centrale Dep: 1720 | EC train (reservation recommended - but free - no seat guarantee)
Brig Arr: 1916

Brig Dep: 1920 | free IC train
Spiez Arr: 1953

Spiez Dep: 2003 | free IC train
Interlaken Ost Arr: 2028

3) Brussels - Amsterdam: https://rail.cc/en/brussels-bruxelles-amsterdam-train/f3994

4) Amsterdam - Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-berlin-train/f2346

thank you for the response!

i can see both these journeys are very long. is there anyway you could recommend how we might alter things slightly?

i noticed on bahn there is this train from rome to interlaken *timed out*

it says there is a change in milan and a change in spiez? only takes 6 hr 30 mins. i am guessing you pay supplements on the rome to milan and milan to spiez?

Of course there are faster connections.

Use the schedule planer: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Compare it to the supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it

And the link won't work anymore. You have to copy the times here in the forum .
I suppose you are talking about an EUROSTAR train Rome-Milan (supplement EUR 10) and an EC train from Milan - should be EUR 5 ?!

Peter :)
