This trip will be for 2 weeks starting in the Uk and travelling to Paris by Eurostar first.
Flying back to the Uk from Malaga.

I can see it is easy to get a Thalys train from Paris - Brussels (supp EUR26) - is it easy to get a non-supplement train instead?

From Brussels to The Hague again i can see a Thalys train with supplement of 26 - what is the alternative and is it much longer.

The Hague to Amsterdam could just be a day trip but then i presume going onto Munich is easier from Amsterdam.

How would you advise getting from Munich to Madrid?

Alternatively instead of going all the way down to Munich, Monchengladbach might be an alternative (have friends there). Is there a train from Amsterdam to Monchengladbach and then how to get from Monchengladbach to Madrid?

I can see then there is a train from Madrid to Malaga for a supplement of 10Euro.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi.

Just use the schedule planer as recommended (without HST): https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Paris - Brussels: https://rail.cc/en/paris-brussels-bruxelles-train/f3992

Brussels - The Hague: use a free and direct IC train running every hour. Travel time: 2 hours.

The Hague - Amsterdam: also by free IC train, running at least every hour. Travel time: 40 minutes.

Amsterdam - Munich: use the cheap night train (also possible by free ICE day trains)
https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-munich-night-train/f3745

If you want to have a stop in Mönchengladbach:
Use free IC or ICE trains - then you have to change to a Regional train. Travel time: 3 hours.
Example:
Amsterdam Centraal Dep: 1034 | by free ICE train
Duisburg Hbf Arr: 1232
Duisburg Hbf Dep: 1259 | by free Regional train
Mönchengladbach Hbf Arr: 1342

Mönchengladbach - Munich: free trains as well.
Example:
Mönchengladbach Hbf Dep: 0840 | by free Regional Express train
Köln Hbf Arr: 0935 (If you want, have a stop for some hours in Cologne. It is worth.)
Köln Hbf Dep: 0955 | by free ICE train
München Hbf Arr: 1433

Munich - Madrid:
First by day or night train to Paris:
https://rail.cc/en/munich-paris-night-train/f3775
Day train is a direct TGV with a supplement of EUR 5: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/germany/de

Then either by direct and expensive night train to Madrid:
https://rail.cc/en/paris-madrid-night-train/f1133

Or by French Corail night train until the border and then continue by cheaper Alaris train (supplement EUR 6,50):
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/france/fr
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/spain/es

Paris Austerlitz Dep: 2310 | Corail night train
Hendaye Arr: 0725
Hendaye Dep: 0825 | Alaris train
Madrid-Chamartin Arr: 1400

Madrid - Malaga like you said - use the supplements website.

I think this will help you. :)

And if you want to support our work and the forum, buy your official InterRail pass via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you.

Peter :)

Thanks for you reply Peter - thats very helpful.

I am still a little confused about the surcharges on the trains though:

For instance does this train (below) have a surcharge? If i search without HST it comes up but if I search without HST/trains without surcharge it doesn't. However in the notes it doesn't say there is a surcharge - so how can you tell?

(sorry the format is a bit weird it wouldn't copy and past properly.
Maybe this is easier? hafas.bene-system.com/bin/query.exe/en?ld=atr&L=profi&seqnr=2&ident=bi.031370113.1268198858&OK#focus

Hi.

IC trains are free.
ERB | EUROBAHN trains are free.

As they are not listed in the supplements section.

Peter :)
