Hi there
I am wanting to travel from Madrid to Paris but I have looked at the night train and it's about €50 which I think is a bit too much for me to stretch to.
Has anyone done this route but cheaper i.e by changing trains. If so where?
Thanks in advance :D
ps I am hoping to do this leg of the journey at night if that helps

Hi!
Madrid Chamartin 1610 - 2203 Irun :arr: Alvia, compulsory reservation, ~6,50€
Irun 2218 - 0711 Paris Austerlitz :arr: Lunéa, compulsory reservation, ~1,50 - 3€ for a reclining seat, ~15€ for a couchette.
At Madrid reservation for the Lunéa should be possible at either Chamartin or Atocha, look out for international ticket booths...prepare a note with date, time and train number (4052) and you should be fine (I could make such a reservation at Barcelona Sants a few weeks ago). If that doesnt work out, you can make the reservation online at voyages-sncf.com - select recherche avancée and then carte et abonnement > abo forfait 2e
