First I would like to thank all the moderators and creators of this website. Excellent tool and very informative. Finding sites like these really make me happy that such technology exists.
I am planning our second trip to Europe. Want to checkout Eastern Europe for the most part but only have 14 days.
Travel Route:
Prague - 3 nights
Krakow - 2 nights
Budapest - 2 nights
Vienna - 2 nights
Fussen - 2 nights
Munich - 2 nights
Questions:
1. We are all about experiencing history, culture, architecture. Don't care about night life and would like to avoid crowds. Planning to travel in October. If you were to ditch one of these places what would it be? We'd like to experience Prague and Auschwitz and Neuschwanstein for sure but are not really set on the other places. We do need to fly out of a major city to North America so thats why Munich is in there.
2. What kind of rail pass will best suit our needs. I read about a pass that lets us travel through 5 boarding countries. I think this could work since these 5 countries boarder each other. Any idea what pass this is and what it costs per person? Also could it be cheaper to buy individual tickets in advance between these locations?
3. Are there any private train cabins for two people over night from Prague to Krakow? Will we miss much scenery if we travel over night between these two places.
4. Same question as #3 for Krakow to Budapest? Is it best to see the train sights during the day?
5. Really interested in a short term pad rental for Prague. Any recommendations?
Thanks for all your help!

Hi.
Some information I can give you.
Prague-Krakow: if you have the time, do it by day train. But yo wont miss too much. Are you starting in Munich and traveling to Prague? This journey (using the direct trains) is a nice scenery.
For the night train have a look at this link: https://rail.cc/en/prague-krakow-night-train/f4027
And it is definitely worth to spent the money for a 2-bed-cabin.
You can buy the supplement for it either in Munich (if you start there) or in Prague at the main station.
Krakow-Budapest: is also possible by night trains - but don't have the supplements right now.
https://rail.cc/en/krakow-budapest-night-train/f3305
Budapest-Vienna: use a direct day train, for example a RAILJET - so you won't have to pay a supplement.

On your way to Fussen, maybe have a stop in Salzburg. Very nice.
Or if you don't mind traveling a bit more, think about a trip to Switzerland using the GLACIER Express.
https://rail.cc/en/glacier-express/f1750
Have a look at the schedule planer: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
If you want to do this trip, I can find a nice connection for you.
You can reach Fussen by free Regional trains - in Bavaria the city of Regensburg is also nice to visit.
Concerning Auschwitz (which is on your way to Prague-Krakow) you can even stop there leaving the night train. Stay there during the day and continue in the evening to Krakow:

About the ticket: have a look at this website and follow the links ... I suppose you are not European resident ? As you are flying back to the US? If so, you will need an EURAIL pass: https://rail.cc/en/eurail
